Basketball Federation of Kosovo since its affiliation to FIBA in 2015 regularly has participated with Youth National Teams in European Championships and with Senior Men team in the pre-qualifying and qualifying competitions for the EuroBasket and FIBA World Cup.
In 2016, KBF began the competitions with U16 and U18 Women's National Teams and did the same until 2019, where for the first time U20 generation was presented in U20 FIBA European Championship, Division B. This competition was successfully organized in Pristina.
In 2020, KBF intended to participate with U16 and U20 in FIBA European Championships, but due to the spread of COVID-19 pandemic, FIBA canceled all summer events.
FIBA European Championship for Small Countries was on the list as well, and it was postponed for next year, more precisely on June 15-20, 2021.
Elvira Dushku, Secretary General of KBF:
“I believe that this is the right time to form the Senior Women's national team. Due to the situation with the pandemics, FIBA European Championship for Small Countries is postponed and KBF should take advantage of this and start gathering potential senior players. We plan to seek financial support from the Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Sports of Kosovo and start building the team this summer.
However, this proposal first has to be approved by KBF's board. The matter will be discussed very soon, and we will also decide with which youth women generations to compete in championships. Post-war generations will be honored to represent our country in official competition, whereas young talented players will benefit from this event as well.”
