Ilievski: 2015, the year of Kosovo basketball

  • Ilievski: 2015, the year of Kosovo basketball
14 August 2015

"In 2015 basketball of Kosovo has experienced many beautiful things, the affiliation in FIBA, the triumph in the Balkan League and the involvement in FIBA Europe Cup". With these words, Coach Marjan Ilievski started the conversation, who also talked about what awaits Prishtina in the new season. Sigal Prishtina besides local competitions and Balkan League, this season will also compete in the new league of FIBA Europe, FIBA Europe Cup.

According to Ilievski, Prishtina’s involvement in FIBA Europe Cup is a great step for the basketball of Kosovo in general. “Prishtina represents Kosovo in Europe and in the same time gives direction and the formula for a successful project to other clubs. It also motivates young basketball players, who hope to one day play in the European level.  I believe that all the teams from Kosovo will increase the level of organizing local competitions and coaches will work with greater motivation in order to have more local players”, said the Macedonian coach.

Last season, Ilievski won the champions title in the elite basketball of Kosovo and the trophy of the Balkan League and now he talked about Prishtina’s goals for this season. “Club’s goals in local competitions are to defend the title, to win the Cup and Super Cup. In BIBL we intend to repeat the success of last season even though we are aware that defending the title is more difficult than winning it for the first time. We will try our best to represent Prishtina and also Kosovo in the best possible way in FIBA Europe Cup. We will work in the direction of passing the group stage, which will be a difficult challenge because we have very strong rivals who have experience in European competitions. We all want to go far in this league. In sport, it is very important to always believe that you can defeat every opponent. “

It should be noted that in FIBA Europe Cup, Sigal Prishtina is part of the Conference 2, and will compete in Group C with Energia Targu Jiu (Romania), BC Astana (Kazakhstan) and AEK Larnaca (Cyprus).
